Descartes' Atomic Architecture for Planbrand

Inspired by René Descartes' principle of starting with the simplest undeniable truths, Planbrand is built from atomic units that combine into molecules, elements, modules, and complete brand systems. Complexity is not designed first—it emerges from simple, connected foundations.
Why Planbrand exists

We spent ten years watching founders get burned by the same setup.

Six things every founder ran into. Every single time.

The hand-over killed the brand: Studios deliver a Figma file and a 40-page PDF. The brand stops being editable the moment they leave the room. What was a living conversation becomes a frozen artefact. The brand starts dying at the moment it goes live.

The founder could not edit their own brand

Most founders can edit maybe 10% of their own brand — copy on a landing page, an email subject line. The other 90% requires a designer, a developer or an agency call. The brand is theirs in name. Not in operation.

The stack multiplied

Six SaaS tools to run one brand. Webflow for the site, Mailchimp for emails, Memberstack for accounts, Tally for forms, Notion for docs, Stripe Portal for billing. None of them bound to the brand record. All of them duct-taped together with Zapier and prayer.

The brand drifted within a year

New hires landed in folders they could not navigate. New campaigns started using approximations of the brand because the real assets were too hard to find. Within twelve months the brand on the website did not match the brand on the deck did not match the brand on the email. One brand became three.

Templates made every brand look the same

Every "brand-safe template" — site template, email template, deck template — looked generic. Every founder ended up with a brand that resembled a hundred other brands because the templates flattened the originality the studio had paid to create.

The relationship died at the invoice

Once the studio invoice was paid, the relationship ended. No AM. No continuity. A help-docs link, a forum, a ticket queue — or nothing. The brand had no one in its corner after launch day.

Defining Atomic Data Structures for a Connected System

Before building the interface, we broke down all data into the smallest possible units—atoms—and structured how they combine into elements, compounds, and modules. This approach ensures every piece of data is reusable, connected, and defined only once. By eliminating duplication and designing clear relationships between layers, the system remains fully optimised, scalable, and consistent across all outputs.

Connecting Brand Data to the Front-End Builder

At this stage, I designed the core data architecture that allows brand information to be defined once and rendered across all touchpoints. Each field is structured, related, and mapped to front-end components, enabling dynamic generation of responsive pages. This approach separates data from presentation, ensuring consistency, scalability, and controlled rendering across the entire system.

Defining Action, Trigger, and Event Architecture

At this stage,weI mapped all possible actions, triggers, and events within Planbrand to create a complete execution system. Each interaction—user actions, system responses, and automated flows—was defined as a structured event. This allows the platform to translate behaviour into trackable, repeatable processes, where every trigger leads to a clear outcome. The result is a fully connected system where operations, automation, and user interactions run on a unified logic layer.

Drafting the Multi-Brand Architecture Within a Single User System

At this stage, we designed the structure that allows a single user to manage multiple companies and multiple brands within each company. Each brand operates as its own structured system—containing its own story, identity, products, and audience data—while remaining connected under one unified workspace. This ensures scalability without duplication, enabling users to manage complex brand ecosystems with clarity, separation, and full control from a single account.
